CODEX CONSULTANCY was founded by me (TO) in 2012 to deliver services for open access and open science. In 2012 I have been involved in the organization of the Rotterdam Colloquium on new assessment tools for open access journals.
In nov 2012 I have been invited to deliver presentations at the BiomedCentral Open Access Africa conference in Capetown and at the Berlin10 conference in Stellenbosch (South Africa). The presentations were on community building and on the journal impact factor as a major obstacle for open access as the default publishing system for scholars. I have very strong feelings about the need to take matters in our own hands by forming open access communities around scientific themes, and to strive for replacing the Thomson Reuters impact factor as quickly as possible with something better and more of this century.
Current projects are :
working as Lead Evaluator on a trial of the Beta version of the Open Access Spectrum tool , developed by PLoS and CottageLabs (2015-2016)
developing quality assessment criteria for scientific publications and for the evaluation of scientists (in collaboration with DOAJ, University of Leiden, ongoing)
Capacity building for open access systems in Africa ( UNESCO, 2014-2016)
Development of Impact assessment criteria (ongoing)
Work as Managing editor for DOAJ (nov 2014- )
